Worth knowing

Under these settings, overtime adds $95.00 compared with paying the same hours at the entered straight-time rates. Actual payroll can include other adjustments.

No kitchen-table math.

How the hours add up.

Five steps, in order, with the rules named.

  1. Finish time minus start time, each daytime on the clock
  2. Minus the unpaid breakhours worked that day
  3. All seven days added togetherhours for the week
  4. Anything past 40 in the weekovertime hours
  5. Regular hours at the rate, overtime at one and a halfgross pay
  • The model: overtime after 40 hours

The calculator applies 1.5 times the entered rate after 40 hours in the week. Optional daily mode also counts time beyond 8 hours a day. It does not calculate double time, seventh-day rules or every jurisdiction’s requirements.

  • Enter only unpaid breaks

Every break minute you enter is deducted. Check which breaks must be paid under the rules that apply to the employee, and leave paid breaks out of this field.

  • Worked to the minute

Hours are worked out from the exact minutes and rounded only for display, to two decimal places. If you round time cards to the quarter hour, round both ways and do it the same way every week.

What it can’t know. This adds up time cards; it is not payroll. It does not withhold taxes, apply state rules beyond daily overtime, or know which of your people are exempt. Check your state’s rules and keep the printed sheet, because nothing here is saved.

Or skip the cards.

Let the crew clock in from the app.

The crew clocks in and out from the OnSiteCall app on their phones, and you review the hours at the end of the week instead of reading handwriting.

  1. Clock in and out, even offline

  2. Review hours for the whole crew

Questions about the crew hours calculator.

The ones a skeptical owner asks, answered straight.

Does a lunch break count as hours worked?

The calculator does not decide whether a break is paid. Enter only breaks that can be treated as unpaid under the rules applicable to the employee; every minute entered is deducted from the total.

When does overtime start?

This model uses 40 hours per week at 1.5 times the entered rate, with an optional threshold of 8 hours per day. Your actual pay rules may differ. Double time, special workweek rules and other pay adjustments are not included.

Can a shift run past midnight?

Yes. When the finish time is earlier than the start time, the tool counts it as the next morning.

Does this do payroll?

No. It adds up hours and gross pay. It does not withhold taxes or know your state’s other rules, so it is a check on the time cards, not a pay stub.

Is anything I type here saved?

No. It runs in your browser, there is no account and nothing is sent anywhere. Print the sheet if you want a record.
